WinGate Policies and Rights

WinGate 2.1 provides tight security while maintaining flexibility. Security in WinGate is managed by the assignment of rights to individuals and groups. This system operates very like the Windows NT user system. In the configuration pane of GateKeeper, there is a Rules icon appearing as a book. Double clicking on this icon will give you the Policies tab.

There are two levels of rights

wingate200090000.gif Default rights called System Policies. These configure global access and configuration rules.

wingate200090000.gif Service policies. These are rights for the individual service. Service policies can include the default system rights, or stand on their own.

These two levels of rights can be used in three ways for each service:

a. The service will grant access if its rules allow the specific request, ignoring the default rights.

b. The service will grant access if its rules allow the specific request OR if the default rights allow the specific request.

c. The service will grant access if the service policies allow access AND the default rights allow the specific request.

Each policy is configurable on several options, including
