What to do first

Make sure you follow the order of these instructions. WinGate is not complicated to install, but it needs your network to be functioning first. The DNS server in WinGate 2.1 will return the IP of the WinGate machine if the name 'wingate' is looked up.

Note:

Your WinGate machine needs a static IP address. Client applications need to refer to this number for Internet access. We recommend the IP address 192.168.0.1 and use it throughout this guide. If you use a different IP for the WinGate machine substitute this IP number for any occurrence of 192.168.0.1. Only change the WinGate IP number if you are sure that the new IP is legal. You can use a name for the WinGate machine. The best name to use is the Network name of the WinGate computer eg netserver01.

Note for existing users of WinGate:

In previous versions we suggested using a hosts file name for the WinGate IP. You will see that this is no longer required. Existing hosts files can be left as is or you can remove the WinGate entry if you wish. As mentioned above, you can use the Network name of the WinGate machine. With the new DNS server in WinGate, the if the name 'wingate' is looked up, the IP of the WinGate machine will be returned.

1.
Install TCP/IP on the WinGate machine
