WWW Browser Applications

WinGate 2 has 2 proxies for use by browsers. The WWW proxy for HTTP HTTPS and FTP, and SOCKS5 for any browser function.

In general use these proxy settings.

HTTP: wingate port: 80

SOCKS: wingate port: 1080

FTP: wingate port: 80

Secure: wingate port: 80

This is an alternative, assuming that this is the IP of WinGate:

HTTP: 192.168.0.1 port: 80

SOCKS: 192.168.0.1 port: 1080

FTP: 192.168.0.1 port: 80

Secure: 192.168.0.1 port: 80

The WinGate 2 utility can setup Navigator, MSIE and Pointcast, and is recommended. You can however follow these instructions for manual setup.

WinGate does not have specific Gopher or WAIS proxies, so again these entries should be left blank in any application's proxy set up. In this way the application will use the WinGate SOCKS proxy for these services if it has SOCKS support.

Note: If you are using AutoSOCKS on your workstations, then you do not need to configure Browsers or other client software for Proxies.
