Setting up dialing
Note:
Only setup dialing if you use a modem to access the internet. If you use
another method like a leased line then leave the dialing blank.
When WinGate first starts, there will be no phonebook entries in the WinGate
Dialer Properties dialog. This means that there is no dialing. You would want
this where you do not require dialing features (e.g you have an Ethernet
connection, or leased line connection or other direct link).
If you wish to use a modem on the WinGate machine for access to the Internet,
you need to configure a phonebook entry using dial-up networking (RAS in
NT3.51). WinGate uses the Windows phonebook entries to dial and log in to your
service provider with no user intervention required.
If you wish to use a modem on the WinGate machine for access to the Internet,
you need to configure a phonebook entry using dial-up networking (RAS in
NT3.51) so that the dial-up networking system can dial in, and log into your service
provider with no user intervention required. WinGate can then use this phonebook entry in its own phonebook to make a
connection to the service provider defined in the entry.
So, once you have set this up in dial-up networking, and tested it and it is
working, you should connect to WinGate with GateKeeper with Administrator
privileges, double click on the dialer icon, and you will be presented with the WinGate Dialer Properties dialog.
The Auto Connect to option gives a list of your existing phone book entries.
Select the one you wish to use.
There are a lot of options and these are detailed in the WinGate 2.1 manual
Choose Add to add an entry.
In the dialog that is presented, enter appropriate values. Name and Password are needed even if you have them in the DUN phone book entry.
